Interior and exterior drains

Interior drains are the best bet against water seepage just because of the relatively low cost compared to outside basement waterproofing. Interior drains drain water from along the bottom of the basement and drain into a sump pump which propels water outside the home and away from the foundation.

Interior drains involve breaking up of the concrete floor and installing a drain and sump pump. The drain is installed alongside the footing and gravel is poured on top.

Interior drains can solve water seepage or they can be a preventative measure.

Exterior drains are the next best step in basement waterproofing for homes of all ages. They are a must when homes have finished basement or when interior drains aren’t feasible.

Exterior drains involve excavation of the ground around the foundation wall and applying a barrier wrap and installing a weeping tile drainage system down to the footing and covering the bottom drain with gravel.

Both types of drains are effective in preventing and solving water seepage and are recommended basement waterproofing solutions.

Both types of drains are recommended for homes with a large quantity of cracks, homes that will be finishing their basements, and homes with block, stone, or brick foundations that are cracked.
